Best Smoothies to Jump Start Your Detox Program

February is said to be the lazy people’s kick-start for losing weight. We all wanted a longer January but I’m afraid we’re not in the position to change the calendar. It’ s indeed the perfect time for losing weight and body-detox. Many of us have gained weight during the holidays. It’s that time of the year when we eat unhealthy food, lots of sugar and meat.

We took a sneak-peek to some popular detox recipes that many celebrities have tried.  What we found out is that the fastest and easiest way for body-detox is the super-food diets. By super-foods we mean foods (especially vegetables and fruits) that have a high concentration of minerals and vitamins. Most of these diets are based on fresh juices and smoothies and these are the ones we like the most:

Red cabbage smoothie

Red cabbage is known for its high concentration of vitamins A, B, C and E. It helps fat burning and it improves digestion. Vitamin C and E are best known for fighting against stored food oxidization. Red cabbage’s minerals (potassium, magnesium, calcium and sulfur) are also antioxidants that protect your digestive system, your heart and your brain. Red cabbage smoothie is included in most detox diets, especially the ones to be consumed in winter.

It is really easy to prepare: Cut a small cabbage in small pieces and blend it. You can drink it with some lemon juice, for a better taste. You don’t have to drink more than 2 cups per day.

Cucumber and kiwi smoothie

While cucumbers are a great source of water, kiwis are digestive fruits and energy boosters. We all know green foods help you eliminate toxins out of your body and this is why they are considered the healthiest types of food. Cucumbers also contain electrolytes that hydrate body cells and balance the liquid levels within your body. They are considered purgative, metabolism simulators and they prevent water retention.

On the other hand, kiwis bring the energy you need and they are beneficial in liver and kidneys detox. The best way to drink this smoothie is in the morning: blend 3 kiwis, 1 medium cucumber and half glass of water. You can drink it in the afternoon too, but you will want to make sure you have a toilet nearby.

Celery and carrots smoothie

Another great smoothie for body detox is this colorful, healthy mix of celery and carrots. Known for their high concentration of antioxidants and minerals, carrots have been used to treat diseases like severe anemia and colon cancer. Raw carrots contain specific fibers that fight against hormonal disorders (they balance all hormones in your body). This is very important in the detox process because hormones can cause so many problems, including water and toxins retain or digestive problems. Every nutritionist recommends hormonal blood tests before starting any detox or weight-loss diet. Celery has the same benefits, but it also improves the immune system. It is often called the “youth elixir” because of its regeneration properties. To prepare it, blend one small celery, 2 carrots and drink it twice a day for best results.
